Gerry Mulligan and the Concert Jazz band at the Village Vanguard

こんばんは、JazzyIsshiです。今夜は早目の開店で、久しぶりのBig Bandです。Gerry Mulligan(1927-　)はBariton Saxの名手ですが、それより、Krupa, Thornhill, Lawrence等のBig BandさらにMiles Davisの九重奏団等への編曲としてのイメージが強い感じがします。1950‐60年代には他流試合や古老との共演も積み重ねました。

演奏はいかにも白人らしい歯切れの良いもので、主なsoloistはMulligan自身の他Clark Terry (tp), Bob Brookmeyer (tb), Jim Reider (ts)あたりです。B3ではMulliganのピアノがふんだんに聞けます。自己のQuartetでも時々pを弾いてましたが、編曲家はみなpを弾くのでしょう。
