1930年代中期は不況の影響もあってSweet Musicが流行り、HotなJazzは影を潜めていた時代と言われます。しかし、1930年代後半に到来するswing時代を予感させるJazzも細々と存在していました。Red AllenやHigginbothamを擁するMills Blue Rhythm Band は甘いChuck Richardsの甘い伴奏に徹するに見せかけ、ウラではHotなJazzを演奏していました。このLPはその両方が聞ける貴重盤です。Tiger Ragの焼き直しであるRide Red RideやEllingtonも録音しているCotton、Benny Carterの名作Blue Interludeが演奏されていますが、いずれも歌主体の録音です。
