Pee Wee RussellはModern派と共演するなど、1960年代末まで活躍を続けたChicago派としては珍しい存在です。このCDは1930年代末から40年代半ばの、Pee Weeにとっての全盛期の録音を集めた決定版です。3，4はJam Session at Commodoreとしての録音ですが、Take１と2でこうも違うのかと感心する出来です。珍しくもCondon一党にLionel Hamptonが加わった5、Condonとは20年代から親交のあるFats Wallerが加わった7は貴重な録音と言えるでしょう。Pee Weeのリーダーセッションである15-22はJess Stacyのピアノもたっぷり聞けます。22はｋの時代にしては長尺の演奏です。全体を通して1920年代に高い評価を得た芸術の香り高い演奏です。
