Alex Welsh (1929-1982)はスコットランド出身のDixie Trumpet奏者です。Alex Welsh and his Band が単身渡英したBraffの伴奏を務めました。普通のDixieバンドと違ってclが絡まないのと、ちゃんと編曲されているので、Big Band風でもあります。Al Gay(1928-2013)やFred Hunt （1923-1986), Jim Douglas (1942- ), Lennie Hastings (1927-1978)あたりが有名奏者ということになりますが、bsのJohnny Barnesもなかなか達者な演奏です。

2,11 のHear Me Talkin' To YaはSatchimoの1930年代の代表作で、2つのスタジオ録音がありますが、いずれもBig Bandを従えたもので、BraffもそれにならってBig Band風の伴奏に乗っています。Where's Freddie?はBraffが何度も演奏している自作曲です。Ruby Got Rhythm もBraff作とクレジットされていますが、I Got Rhythm  そのものでした。

演奏はNew Orleans 出身の白人によるものですが、初期のJazzの雰囲気がよく出ていると思います。曲も後年までよく演奏されたいわゆるスタンダード曲です。3  Discontented Blues (Meyers-Schoebell-Miller)はクレジットが演奏者になっていますが、実際はFrankie and Johnnyです。22は珍しくもJelly Roll Mortonが加わっていますが、saxアンサンブルのバックにピアノが聞こえますが、soloと呼ぶほどのものでもありません。

Claude Thornhill (1908-1965)は1930年代初頭からピアニストとして活躍し、1937年にBigBandを結成しました。1940年頃からはフレンチホルンやチューバ、当時としては珍しかったピッコロやフルート等の木管群を加えて、洒落た編曲を施し人気を博しました。その洗練度は若き日のGil Evans (1912-1988) やGerry Mulligan (1927-1996)に影響を与え、Cool Jazzの始祖などと言われました。まあ、それはちょっとどうかな？と思いますが、戦後（この録音がなされた頃）はほんとにモダンな感じの演奏（Bopではありませんが）を聞かせてくれています。幼馴染のDanny Polo(1901-49)や後年Cool派の代表となるLee Konitz（1927-存命）が加わっているのも聞き所です。

1958年頃テレビが一般化していたアメリカでは番組のテーマソングは一種のヒット曲のようになっていました。（日本でもその傾向があります。）そのヒット曲を趣味の良いWest Coast Jazzにしたのが本作です。oboeが大活躍し普通のJazzとはちょっと違う音色が楽しめます。

後年The Count Basie Orchestraを率いることになるDennis Mackrelの初来日は、Basie自身にとっては最後の来日でした。Mackrelが初めて登場したアルバムが本作です（たぶん）。歯切れの良いフィルインを随所に聞かせてくれます。編曲はずっと常連だったSammy Nesticoです。Nesticoはこの頃のBasie楽団と最も相性の良かった作編曲者だと思います。BasieのPabloへの正式録音は本作が最後のようです。1984年４月にすい臓ガンで亡くなりました。

Count Basie(1904-1984) は1930年代からBig Bandを率いてきましたので膨大なレパートリーを持っています。この晩年の作品では、旧作の再演を中心に、メンバーのオリジナルを集めています。珍しくSammy Nesticoの作が１曲もありません。Freddie Greene(1911-1987)も健在で、Bobby Plater(1914-1982)（最後の録音）、Sonny Cohn (1925-2006), Booty Wood (1919-1987)などの古老がまだ残っていた頃の録音です。Basie亡き後、楽団を率いる、Grover MitchellやBill Hughesも現役として活躍中です。

Wingy Manone (1900-1982)はNew Orleans出身の白人tp奏者です。若い時に事故で右腕を失い左手一本でtpを吹いていました。Manone以外のメンバーは主にBob Crosby楽団からのもののようです。Isle of Capriは文献によれば、1935年にこの演奏が大ヒットしたことになっています。他の曲とあまり変わらない演奏ですが、この曲だけがヒットした本当の理由は分かりません。

演奏はDixieというわけではなく、そこはかとなく編曲されています。編曲はギターのNappy Lamareのような気がします。
