ジミードーシー（1904-1957）はスイング時代に活躍したアルトサックス、クラリネットの名手です。時々トランペットも吹いたようです。このＣＤは1930年代後半から40年台前半にかけて主にDeccaに録音された、Jazz的に優れた作品を集めたものです。そのため、いわゆるHit曲はほとんど含まれていない、硬派な選曲がなされています。それでも、All of Me, Tangerine, Sun Comes OutなどはHelen O'Connerの歌入りです。

ウエストコースト臭の強い編曲を交えた演奏です。題材は1920年代からのスタンダード曲ばかりで固められています。最も有名でない（であろう）By The Beautiful Seaは映画「ドーシー兄弟物語」で幼少の兄弟が演奏するシーンがあったくらいですからもっと古い曲なのかも知れません。Sweet SueではPepperのクラリネットが聞かれます。Lester Young風の音色です。

2はDixie時代からの古いスタンダード曲。5はJimmy Lunceford楽団のためにtpのSy Oliverが作った曲。Junior Mance (1928- )は黒い感覚の持ち主と言われますが、この演奏からは却って白い感じもします。Martin Riveraに関する情報はほとんどありません。1970年代からJunior Manceの伴奏を行っていたことが唯一の活躍のようです。
