Charlie Barnet (1913-1991)はその財力にモノを言わせて1932年頃には自己のBig Bandを組織し、早くも1933年には録音も行っています。この頃はEllingtonの影響をモロに受けた演奏でしたが、常に時代に先駆けた（少なくとも遅れない）演奏を続けてきました。1940年代にはBop色の強い演奏、1950年代はWest Coast色の強い演奏、そして1960年代に入っても、Bill Holamn, Billy Byers等の進歩的な譜面を使っていました。このCDの編曲もほとんどこの両人によるものです。 有名solistはtpのCandli兄弟、asのWillie Smith, dsのJack Sperlingあたりでしょうか。もちろんBarnet自身のasとssが大活躍します。
