1966年のEllington楽団はベテランが健在でまさにAll-Star Bandの風格を漂わせています。1930年代から活躍するCootie, Lawrence, Hodges, Carneyはまさにこのバンドのサウンドの中核です。Black And Tan FantasyやThe MoocheそしてCreole Love Callのような1920年代からのレパートリーが再演されていますが、単なる再演ではなく、新たな編曲と新たなSolistによる新鮮な演奏です。個人的には、Black and Tan Fantasyが再演物の傑作と思います。Cootie Williamsは1960年代以降Imaginationを失ってしまったと言われていますが、このBlackを聞く限り畢生の名演と言えると思います。

Bengt Hallberg (1932-2013)はエーテボリ出身で主に母国Sweedenで活躍したピアニストです。Teddy Wilsonの影響下からモダンに転向したようなスタイルでなかなか達者なピアノを楽しむことができます。1は1927年のZez Confreが作曲したRagtime曲です。あまりJazzで取り上げられる例はないようです。5はHallbergのオリジナルのように標記されていますが、実際は民謡のようです。

Charlie Barnet (1913-1991)はその財力にモノを言わせて1932年頃には自己のBig Bandを組織し、早くも1933年には録音も行っています。この頃はEllingtonの影響をモロに受けた演奏でしたが、常に時代に先駆けた（少なくとも遅れない）演奏を続けてきました。1940年代にはBop色の強い演奏、1950年代はWest Coast色の強い演奏、そして1960年代に入っても、Bill Holamn, Billy Byers等の進歩的な譜面を使っていました。このCDの編曲もほとんどこの両人によるものです。
有名solistはtpのCandli兄弟、asのWillie Smith, dsのJack Sperlingあたりでしょうか。もちろんBarnet自身のasとssが大活躍します。
